As part of a major new rehabilitation and resettlement programme, Catch22 has been awarded nine contracts to deliver personal wellbeing support for prison leavers on licence, those requiring post-sentence supervision and those serving community or suspended sentences.
The contracts form part of the Ministry of Justice’s Commissioned Rehabilitative Services, a set of interventions across Accommodation, Education, Training and Employment, Personal Wellbeing and Women’s Services delivered by the public, private, voluntary, community and social enterprise sectors.
The contracts build on Catch22’s existing successful work in offender management and Through the Gate support. They will be delivered across the following Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) regions:
- London
- West Mercia
- Avon and Somerset
- Dorset
- Thames Valley
- Hampshire and Isle of Wight
- Devon and Cornwall
- Wiltshire
- Gloucestershire
Service users accessing Personal Wellbeing will engage in interventions in four key areas:
- Family and Significant Others: helping service users develop positive family relationships and avoid harmful ones
- Lifestyle and Associates: helping service users improve their pro-social self-identity and ability to access community-based support networks
- Emotional Wellbeing: helping service users to develop coping skills and strategies to regulate mood and demonstrate perspective-taking and self-care by avoiding risky situations
- Social Inclusion: helping service users to develop and sustain social networks to reduce initial social isolation and develop resilience and perseverance
Lisa Smitherman, Director of Justice at Catch22, said:
“Getting the right support to those leaving prison and undertaking rehabilitative work in the community is incredibly important for their own wellbeing, future prospects and for society as a whole. We’ll be taking our expertise and experience of working in the prison environment and translating it into impactful support services in the community.
“Alongside our network of exceptional delivery partners, we have the potential to help service users transform their lives. It’s a hugely exciting opportunity and we look forward to working with colleagues and stakeholders across the criminal justice system to support service users to achieve lasting change.”
The contracts will commence on 26th June 2021.
